I see being able to move is such a gift. I have enjoyed hiking up mountains to the snowline for days on the Kepler track in New Zealand. I now enjoy taking a leisurely walk by myself to the shops and around my neighbourhood. Everything that is involved in walking is something to be grateful for. Specially since experiencing a period of not being able to freely walk around that I gained such an appreciation. COVID lockdowns restricted us from getting out of the house. Remembering the feeling of lockdowns lifted and being able to freely walk out of the house without restrictions was welcomed. I was born with hypermobile flat feet! Having just got orthotic fitted shoes oh my goodness how much a difference it makes to my day. Everyday, I enjoy each able step. Likewise when I stand. So precious and eventful.
Each precious step
Stepping with sounds
sensations
under my shoes
The cushion of the soil
dried leaves crackle
heel strikes the pavement
slipping on gravel
sloshing in a puddle
swishing through grass
left foot
right
moving
my pelvis
my spine
my head
My stride
felt through
my body
I step
on a slope
my neck cracks
my head tilts
I breathe deeply
sweat breaks
blood flows
This feeling
invites
this buzzing
aliveness
a pause
in my steps
As I stand
I stand in
freedom
of being
Being here
in peace
the peace that
I choose
to be with
As I stand
and step
onwards
May your week be welcomed with appreciation of yourself
